Local Church Support
There are hundreds of churches in Cook County that support the jail chaplaincy. Other churches have been approached but have shown little interest in supporting the ministry. Yet some of these churches are the first to cry, “Help chaplain!” when one of their members or child of a member lands in jail. Why is there so little appreciation for the Gospel ministry at the jail? One reason is that many local churches have little appreciation for criminal souls that are saved and birthed into God’s kingdom. It is hard even for some Christians to overcome an attitude of “Lock them up and throw away the key”. Yet, the true children of God will respond in some way. For Christ said of His sheep, “I was in prison, and ye came unto me” (Matt 25:36).
