Ministering To

The types of ministries offered at the Cook County Jail are as diverse as the denominational backgrounds of those who minister. The jail ministry provides opportunities for most any spiritual gift to be exercised. Volunteers are involved in leadership training, teaching, preaching, counseling, intercession, administration, public and church relations, serving, exhortation, hospitality, and music. Furthermore, the chaplain serves as a spiritual shepherd for inmates, staff, and volunteers. Hence, there is no lack of opportunity to use ones spiritual gifts in the jail ministry. The following is a discussion of the ministries offered by the chaplaincy to inmates, families, jail staff, and the community.
